GARDAG isa voluntary non-profit organisation founded by Ken Gie with a focus on monitoring water quality of our natural resources within the George region, south of the Outeniqua mountains in the Western Cape, South Africa
Our Mission
Canvass local government to improve governance & protect the dam from over-development.
Raise awareness regarding waste and the resale value of plastic waste.
Encourage businesses & the private sector to engage in initiatives concerning ecosystem restoration, responsible development and the importance of preserving our dwindling water resources.
Educate school children & local communities & raise awareness regarding water scarcity. Projects dedicated to the removal of invasive alien plants.

What we do
Raising awareness about the importance of the Garden Route Dam
Advocating for sustainable water management practices
Engaging with government officials and stakeholders to influence policy decisions
Developing educational resources for schools and the community
Monitor water quality by conducting regular sampling & analysis of the waterways feeding into the Garden Route Dam and other locations within the district. Raise awareness within the community and work with local government and residents to educate and inform regarding water quality & scarcity. Conduct Workshops and Initiatives encouraging Water Saving Awareness within local communities. Waste & Alien Vegetation Clean up Initiatives involving local communities.
What are some of the issues that the community of George, South Africa face?
Ailing infrastructure, mismanagement, illegal dumping and a lack of regular maintenance has resulted in the frequent contamination of our fragile water sources which are already under immense pressure due to population growth, unsustainable development, the proliferation of invasive alien plant species and poor waste treatment.
